Product Photography for Packaging Design

A few shots from my recent work.

Packaging design photography is a special task. The products should be presented in the best manner and in this special case, they should show additionally some «Food-Appeal». In the beginning of my work for this client, I achieved the results in one single shot. It took a lot of arrangement work, lightening, cleaning and rearranging of all items in a very limited time. The critical point is, to finish the shoot, before some of the veggies begin to wrinkle or get limp under the studio light. They should look fresh and healthy. This showed up as a very tough job and I didn't like the stress it produced.

With the progress of the assignment I shifted my workflow towards postproduction composing of different shots. That means, I now shoot various veggies as single shots and combine them at the end with the product shots as well. In that way, each item gets the same attention and will look perfect in the combination. I got much more control over the composing and results are far better now.

My «Products for Packaging Desing» pictures were shot with NIKON D3 and NIKON D800 DSLRs with NIKKOR AF-S 85mm, f 1:1,4 D and NIKKOR AF-S VR 105mm Micro lenses, under studio conditions. All compositings and the fine tuning has been made in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Apple Aperture 3. Pictures 1 -9 are made in a single shot, pictures 10-14 are composings.

Enjoy, Alfredo Briccola
